Bruggeman Named NSIC South Division Player of the Week for Third Time

Southwest Minnesota State University senior guard Ryan Bruggeman was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference South Division Player of the Week on Monday following his outstanding play in a pair of home victories last weekend.
 
It's the third time he has earned the award this season and the fifth time in his four-year career. 
 
Bruggeman, a 6-foot, 182-pound native Pelican Rapids, Minn., closed the weekend averaging 31.5 points, 7.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game, while shooting 67 percent (22 of 33) from the field and making all 15 free throws attempted.
 
Bruggeman scored a game-high 34 points on 13 of 18 shooting, with one 3-pointer, while making 7 of 7 free throws to help SMSU defeat Minot State, 83-77 last Friday night. He also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds (tying a career-high), dished out seven assists, had two steals and had zero turnovers in 32 minutes. He scored 21 of his 34 points in the second half as he helped the Mustangs rally from an 11-point deficit in the final seven minutes.  
 
In Saturday's 79-71 win over the University of Mary, Bruggeman scored a game-high 29 points on 9 of 15 shooting with three 3-pointers and made 8 of 8 free throws. He had a game-high seven assists with three rebounds and two steals. He made six free throws in the final 46 seconds to seal the victory.
 
Bruggeman leads SMSU in scoring (24.5), assists (104), steals (36), field goals made (160) and free throws made (103) this season, while shooting 52 percent (160 of 307) from the field and 90 percent (103 of 115) from the free throw line. He has scored in double figures every game and has scored 20 or more points 11 times, which includes seven 30-point games.
 
In the NSIC statistics (conference games only), he leads the league in scoring (26.8), is first in steals (24), fourth in assists (61) and fourth in free throw pct. (92.0).
 
Bruggeman has started all 114 games in his career and is the program's all-time scoring leader with 1,836 points. He is also the program's all-time leader in free throws made (488), assists (614), steals (192) and is second in field goals made (626).  
 
Bruggeman is a 2014 graduate of Pelican Rapids High School.
