Zach Haire and Hunter Gowin led the Breckenridge-Wahpeton cross country team to a 3rd place finish at Pelican Rapids Tuesday afternoon.   Zach’s 3rd place, 16:49, and Hunter’s 5th place, 17:05, earned them All-Conference Honors.
"Placing in the top 5 at the HOL meet is no small feat," stated Breck-Wahp Head Coach Larry Lasch.  "The conference is dominated by the Perham and West Central Area teams, which are two of the favorites to win the Minnesota state meet.  I am very proud of our boys to place 3rd and see two BW runners near the front of the pack. The team did very well."
Anthony Conzemius, Corbin Cornelius, and Isaac Getz also ran well placing 21st, 26th, and 34th, respectively.  All three broke the 20-minute mark.  Anthony ran an impressive 18:35 and Cobin finished in 19:10, his best time of the year.  Isaac ran a 19:46.   Austin Snobl and Nolan Lemna finished 39th and 44th, respectively in 20:01.0 and 20:24.   It was a good race for both those senior boys running their last HOL meet.
Rachel Gowin just missed the All-Conference honors, but still ran a solid 21:38 to place 19th.  "Rachel has been racing very well, she is positive and courageous on race day," said Lasch.
Grace Conzemius, 31st place, 23:09, posted one of her better times this season.  Tylee Brady, Madison Rabbithead, Kaylee Lindblad rounded out the top 5 for the lady Harriers in 38th, 42nd and 45th, respectivelym, in times of 24:09, 24:48, and 25:56.   Mercedes Jirak placed 50th in 26:58 while Kary Schadler was one place behind in 26:59.  It was good race for both those girls as they have been on JV for most of the season.
Other highlights included Andrew Hanson and Gus Lasch placing 13th and 14th in the JV race, both running 20:33.  Jonathon Hill placed 2nd in the boys JH race.  Haillee Bruce placed 3rd in the JH girls race while Ashlyn Haire placed 8th in that race.  The HOL closes out the season for junior high team.
The varsity and junior varsity travel to Park Rapids next Monday to wrap up the regular season.  The varsity runs the section 6A state qualifier race at New London on October 25.
