Craig Olson (Inducted 1998)

Craig Olson Biography from the Hall of Fame Sports Luncheon, July 24, 1998.
Since his arrival in Fergus Falls in 1981, sports announcer Craig Olson has entertained thousands of radio listeners and those watching sporting events on local television. He is also in high demand as an emcee for athletic banquets in this area of west central Minnesota.
For close to three decades Olson, a native of Detroit Lakes, has honed his radio and TV skills, with the ultimate goal of giving his best in sports reporting and entertainment. His skills do not end with sports, however. He also interviews area residents on a variety of topics, among them organizers of the American Cancer Society, hobbyists, and students and adults who work in education, to name a few.
Olson's commitment to community betterment was one of the main reasons for his selection to the 1998 Hall of Fame.
His love for radio dates back to the early 1970s when he worked as a teenager at KDLM-Radio, Detroit Lakes, starting at age 15 in 1971. He worked at radio stations for 2 1/2 years in Missouri, starting in 1975, and from 1978 to 1981 was part-owner of a radio station in Brigham City, Utah, where he concentrated on program development and sports.
Since 1981, after coming to Fergus Falls, Olson has averaged over 100 sports events per year. He has also been host for morning sports call-in shows and talk shows with coaches, and worked in other communication capacities. He has emceed the annual hockey awards program every year since 1981. Olson is a nephew of 1986 Hall of Fame charter member Oats LeGrand.
He was inducted into the Fergus Falls Community College Sports Hall of Fame in 1993 and in 1994 Olson received the Fergus Falls School District 544 Friend of Education Award. He has been nominated as Minnesota Sportscaster of the Year.
Olson and his wife, Sue, have two sons, Dan, 16, and Ben, 13. A son, Tony, died in 1981.
