Karl Beck (Inducted 1987)

Karl Beck Biography from the Hall of Fame Sports Banquet, April 27, 1987.
Karl Beck was one of the top Otter athletes from the 1960s, as an all-around sports participant at Fergus Falls High School who later took part in athletics at Fergus Falls Community College and at Concordia College in Moorhead.
The 6-foot 170-pound Beck was a four-sport letter winner at Fergus High, as a split end in football, a basketball guard-forward, baseball pitcher and outfielder, and as a track participant in the hurdles and relays. He was the 1969 Otter MVP in basketball, was a basketball all-conference selection in 1968, gained all-state baseball honors in 1969, and was captain in football, basketball, baseball, and track in 1968-69.
Beck's father, Charles, was named to the first Fergus Falls Sports Hall of Fame in 1986. With Karl being honored this year, it completes the first father-son combination.
At Fergus Falls Community College, Karl Beck was a split end in football, a basketball guard, baseball outfielder, and track participant. He was an all-state and all-region basketball selection for the Spartans (as well as FFCC captain) in 1971, and later played on the Spartan baseball team that won the 1971 state title. At Concordia College he was a basketball guard and baseball center fielder, serving as baseball captain in 1973.
While at Fergus High, he ran on the 4th-place mile relay team at the state track meet (1969) and placed 6th in the state meet low hurdles the same year. In baseball, he was MVP of the Fergus Falls American Legion baseball team in 1968 and was a member of the town team's Red Sox squad from 1969 to 1975.
Beck is currently a teacher in the Underwood school system. He and his wife, Jodi, have two daughters, Lisa and Kristine.
