VFW Post 612 Splits with Alexandria

By Press Release - Alexandria, MN

The Fergus Falls VFW Post 612 baseball team traveled to Alexandria Tuesday night for a doubleheader losing the first game 5-3 and winning the nightcap 5-1.

Things started out nicely for the Fergus guys as they took an early 3-0 lead into the 4th inning.  The summer heat and maybe the 4th of July layoff took hold as the guys made some costly mistakes only to see Cardinals put four runs of their own on the board to take a 4-3 lead.  The 612'ers just couldn't find a way to get any more runs across the plate ending up 2 tallies short in the end.

Michael Wiederech once again pitched a nice game (4 IP, 4 R, 7 H, 3 SO, 1 BB) and Arik Heacox finished it out (2 IP, 0 H, 6 SO, 1 BB).  Six different players each knocked out a hit for Fergus in the game.

Mike Maanum started the second game on the mound for Fergus (6 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 7 SO, 2 BB) scattering 4 hits over 6 innings giving the Post 612'ers a great chance to bounce back to win game two.

Colson Papon and Matt Scott led the charge at the plate each smacking singles along with Heacox and Brock Kotschevar.

"In true 'baseball' fashion, one inning of mistakes can cost you a game," said head coach Jared Larson.  "I was happy with how the guys bounced back to win the second game.  Our pitching has been giving us a chance.  We just need to start putting the bat on the ball."

Post 612 is now 12-7 on the season and will travel to Perham for a Thursday night double dip.
