Breckenridge Post 53 Earns Tenth Win

By Kevin Hiedeman - Breckenridge, MN

Breckenridge American Legion Post 53 picked up their 10th win of the season with a 5-3 win over Barnesville on Monday.

Post 53 jumped off to an early lead scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the first. Leadoff hitter Tommy Hiedeman singled to get the inning started. Mitch Porter drew a walk and both players scored on a 2 run single by Jack Aigner. Jeremy Stack, who courtesy ran for Aigner, scored on a single by Andrew Kram. Breckenridge allowed Barnesville back in the game on two throwing errors in the second inning tying up the game 3-3. The score remained tied until the bottom of the 4th inning when Kram led with a single and Dawson Pedersen drew a walk. Wes Johnson laid down a sacrifice bunt moving the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Kram scored on a suicide squeeze and Hiedeman had a two out single scoring Pedersen.

“We haven’t played a lot of baseball in the last 2 weeks, only playing one game last week and one the week before and it showed early,” said Head Coach Kevin Hiedeman. “We got better as the game went on. I was happy with all of our pitching as we did not give up an earned run tonight. EJ Engen and Andrew Kram both did a really good job on the mound throwing 5 1/3 innings only giving up one hit. Offensively Tommy had a big night for us reaching base all 4 plate appearances with three hits, three stolen bases, an RBI and a run scored. Kram also had 2 hits and a big RBI. Aigner had a single and two RBI’s and Pedersen had the other hit for Post 53.”

Post 53 will make up for some time off last week with 7 games this week as they head to Dilworth to face DGF on Tuesday, followed by Parkers on Thursday and the Detroit Lakes invitational Friday through Sunday.
