Detroit Lakes Boys and Girls Golfers Lead After First Round at State

The Detroit Lakes boys and girls golf teams hold the first round lead following Tuesday's action in the Class AA State Tournament at Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan.

In the boys competition DL shot a 305 and has a three stroke lead on second place Holy Family Catholic (308).  Red Wing (317) is third and Cloquet-Esko (319) is fourth.  Nate Deziel (34-35-69) of East Grand Forks is the individual leader and three golfers are tied for second at 71.

The Lakers were led by a 74 (36-38) from Wyatt Blomseth and a 75 (37-38) from Ryan PaskeyBen Unruh (41-37) and Collin Ginnaty (38-40) came in with rounds of 78, followed by Lukas Justesen (40-40-80) and Hunter Burnside (41-40-81).

Fergus Falls junior Aaron Shelstad (42-35-77) is tied for 24th place, while Otter senior Nate Longtin (40-41) and freshman Adam Tonsfeldt (42-39) of Barnesville are tied for 51st place at 81.

The Laker girls recorded a score of 321 and hold a six stroke lead over Marshall (327) and an eight stroke advantage over Red Wing (329).  International Falls is fourth with a score of 336. Individual leaders are Red Wing juniors Sophia Yoemans (30-33-63) and Leah Herzog (32-34-66).

Anna Cihak's round of 72 (35-37) was good for third place to lead DL.  Shelby Busker (35-39-74) is fourth.  They were followed by Maddie Herzog (39-41-80), McKenna Mallow (47-48-95), Evan Westrum (53-48-101) and McKenna Burhans (54-53-107).

Perham golfers Allie King (38-45-83) and Mallory Belka (43-43-86) are tied for 18th and 34th, respectively.
