The Fergus Falls boys golf team finished second to Detroit Lakes at the Section 8AA South sub-section tournament at Headwaters Golf Course in Park Rapids on Wednesday. DL had a score of 311 and Fergus Falls was runner-up with 323. Barnesville was third with 328, followed by Pequot Lakes (339), Hawley (343), Perham (343) and DGF (458).

Medalist honors went to senior Nate Longtin of Fergus Falls with a 73, one stroke better than Wyatt Blomseth of Detroit Lakes who shot a 74. Adam Tonsfeldt of Barnesville was third with a 77, followed by Hunter Burnside of Detroit Lakes with a 78. Collin Ginnaty of the Lakers, Charlie Rasmussen of Perham and Charle Aakre of Barnesville all shot rounds of 79. Ryan Paskey of DL and Carter Justesen of Hawley fired rounds of 80.

"All season the team has been led by senior captain, Nate Longtin, and he didn't disappoint," observed Fergus Falls Head coach Matt McGovern.  "He ended up as the medalist with a one-over par 73, which was his third individual win of the season.  This team goes as Nate goes.  He proved yet again that he is not only one of the best players in the section, but one of the best in the state."

Rounding out the scores for Fergus Falls were Aaron Shelstad and Hayden Shol with 83’s, Trey Soydara with an 84, Noah Raitz with an 88 and Chance Fazio with a 95.

"I'm so proud of these boys and the momentum they have now," added Coach McGovern of the Otters.  "We have such a great group of young men and there is no limit to what they can achieve this year.  I love this team.  I am so impressed by their attitudes and their ability to stay focused.  I love the supporth they have for each other, the way they treat each other, the respect they have for their opponents an dother coaches.  If we come together in Bemidji there is no reason we can't extend this season even further."

Completing the team scoring for Perham were Philip Guck (85), Marcus Belka (87) and Leighton Rach (92).

Barnesville scores included rounds of 86 from Grant Inniger and Mason Moen, a 93 from Jackson Ernst and a 94 from Logan Ernst

The Section 8AA meet will be held next Monday and Tuesday at Bemidji Town and Country Club. Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls and Barnesville will represent the South sub-section in the team competition.
