By Craig Olson - Glenwood, MN

The New York Mills softball team took another step toward successfully defending their Section 6A title when they remained unbeaten with an 11-1 five-inning victory over West Central Area on Tuesday at Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood.

Mills put five runs on the board in the first inning when they collectedf four extra base hits.  Rhiana Roberts got the inning going with a lead-off double and scored the first run when Kaitlyn Kane delivered a double.  Kane scored on Ali Stafki's run-scoring triple and Stafki came in when Tiffany Thompson doubled.  Thompson went to third on a stolen base and scored on a passed ball.  Annika Frost drew a walk, reaching second base on the play, stole third and scored on an errant throw by the catcher.  The Eagles added two in the third on a solo home run by Thompson, her fourth of the year, a walk and stolen base by Annika Frost and an infield error.  A two-out error in the fourth put Stafki on second base and Thompson delivered an RBI single to take the lead to 8-1.  WCA scored their only run of the game in the fourth on a lead-off single by Hailey Hansen, a gorund out and a base hit by Savannah Swenson.  New York Mills finished the game with a 3-run fifth inning, winning by the ten-run rule.  Karli Kawlewski had an RBI single, another run scored on an error and Stafki ended it with a big base hit to scored Kane with the game winning run.
