Season Ends for B-E Softball Team

By Craig Olson - New York Mills, MN

The Brandon-Evansville softball team saw their season come to an end on Thursday in New York Mills as they lost to Browerville/Eagle Valley 7-5 and to Frazee 5-0 in the Section 6A playoffs.

In the loss to the Tigers, B-E fell behind 6-2 but rallied with a run in the sixth and two in the seventh before falling 7-5. Freshman pitcher Marissa Callahan (7IP, 7H, 5R, 4ER, 2BB, 9K) was the winning pitcher. B-E was led at the plate by Emily Bukkila (3-4, 2B, 2HR, 4 RBI, 2R) and Maddie Otto (2-3, 2R).

“Browerville is a very solid team in all aspects of the game and just out played us,” said Head Coach Kasi Sieling. “We gave them too many extra chances and did not play our game. Overall, the girls battled hard to the end and we had plenty of chances throughout the game, we just didn’t get the timely hits to bring runs in when we needed them.”

Frazee shut down the Chargers as Abby Wothe fired a complete game, allowing 7 hits and striking out eight batters.

Brandon-Evansville was led by Otto (3-3, 2B), Sara Jacobson (2-3) and Payton Schaefer (1-3, 2B).

“Unfortunately, we weren’t able to find our groove,” said Coach Sieling. “We had plenty of opportunities with runners in scoring position, but just weren’t able to get that clutch hit to bring runners in and get something going. Defensively, Frazee was extremely aggressive on the bases and took advantage of our miscues. These were two extremely tough teams and the girls battled all night, unfortunately, we came up short. It’s always difficult to see a season come to an end, but I could not be more proud of all these girls have accomplished. Every one of these players has grown immensely from the beginning of the season and I could not be more grateful to be their coach. To our seniors, thank you for all of your time, dedication, leadership and contributions to our program. I can honestly say these seniors have left such a positive mark on our program and I am extremely proud to have coached these girls. This group of girls has a lot to be proud of and it sure has been a fun season working with them every day!”
