Fergus Falls Baseball Team Splits with Alexandria

By Craig Olson - Fergus Falls, MN

The Fergus Falls baseball team got a split in another conference doubleheader on Tuesday, losing the first game 6-3 and winning the nightcap 8-2 against Alexandria. The Otters had chances in the first game but could never get the big hit.

“We left too many runners on base,” commented Head Coach Kevin Pearson. “We just needed someone to get the clutch hit. We played well enough to win.”

Logan Wentworth and JK Brimhall each knocked in a run as six different Otters each had one hit. Brad Moxness and Cole Knudson scored the runs for the Otters. Leading hitters for the Cardinals were Matthew Carlson (3-4, 2R, 2B), Brock Anderson (2-3, 2B, 2 RBI) and Braeden Reisdorf (2-5, RBI, 2R).

Fergus Falls had four hits and took advantage of four walks to score five runs in the first inning of game two, taking a lead they would never relinquish.

“We did to them what so many teams have done to us,” reported Coach Pearson. “We scored early. Ashwin Stratton threw the ball pretty well tonight as he worked around five walks. We were also able to stay away from the big inning.”

Fergus Falls was led by Eric Salvesen (1-3, 2R, 2BB, 2 RBI, SB), Austin Stanislawski (2-3, R, 2 RBI), Brimhall (2-2, 2B, 2BB, 2 RBI) and Knudson (2-5, 2R). Carlsen went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Cards.
