Two Area Golfers Commit to M State

By Craig Olson - Fergus Falls, MN

M State golf coach Jason Retzlaff has announced that two area golfers have committed to M State.  Wyatt Blomseth of Detroit Lakes and Carter Justesen of Hawley will join the Spartans for their Fall 2018 season.

Blomseth is a two-time All-State selection, two-time All-Conference selection and 6-time medalist who was a member of the Lakers recent state tournament teams that took third place and fifth place.  Individually, Blomseth placed eighteenth as a junior and 28th as a sophomore at the state tournament.

Justesen was the 2017 Heart O' Lakes Conference champion and a 2017 State Tournament qualifier.  He was twice named to the HOL All-Conference team and was team MVP for the Nuggets in 2017, finishing as runner-up in the Section 6A tournament in 2017.

"It's very exciting to sign two players with the skills, experience, and character of Wyatt and Carter," said M State Head Coach Jason Retzlaff.  "Wyatt has played in a very successful Detroit Lakes program and has been tested by playing in two state tournaments.  His short game is tremendous.  Carter is a very impressive player coming off an outstanding season winning the Heart O' Lakes and qualifying for the state tournament.  These are quality young men who will be great additions to our golf program."

The Spartans will play in the NJCAA Division III National Championship in Chautauqua, New York June 5-8.  They won the NJCAA Division III National Championship in 2012 and were third in both 2016 and 2017.  This is the seventh consecutive year the Spartans have participated in the National Championship Tournament.
