West Central Area Boys Golf (Season Preview)

By Craig Olson - Barrett, MN

The West Central Area boys golf team has eight new golfers to the varsity program, along with four returning junior varsity players, and one returning varsity player who was part-time last season, Kaden Spindler.  Five players, including All-Conference golfers James Wiese and Jackson Merrick were lost to graduation.

"We are looking for a fun year with new and inexperienced players learning and improving," stated Head Coach Kraig Hunter, now in his twelfth season.  "Our main goal will be to have a good attitude on the course.  Having a good attitude when things don't go well is the most important step to keeping your scores down and it is a direct lesson for life as well.  Our other goals will be to see individual improvement in all of our young golfers and to put together a competitive team by the end of May."

Senor Aiden Winter, sophomores Declan Johnson, Jacob Warde, Ian Wittbrodt, Jack Van Kempen, Gage Staples and Jacob Bright, and freshman Tate Christenson are all in the mix for spots in the varsity lineup.

The Knights compete in the Quad County Conference which is comprised of Ashby, Underwood, Hillcrest, Rothsay, OTC, Long Prairie-Browerville, Ortonville, Wheaton, Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley and WCA.  Hunter sees OTC and Ortonville as the top contenders in the conference, with Dawson-Boyd, Lac qui Parle Valley and Ortonville as the favorites in Section 5A.

Jody Brasel and Chelle Dewey will coach the junior high golfers.
