Saying Goodbye to a Friend and Fan of the Otters

By Craig Olson
Fergus Falls, MN

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Greg “Fuzz” Noren on Friday, March 30. “Fuzz” was a huge Otter supporter and a former Otter standout athlete himself.

He was employed with the Fergus Falls Public Schools and coached track and field alongside Terry Harrington. He and Terry also officiated at the MSHSL State Track and Field Meet for many years.

“Fuzz” graduated in 1967 and then attended Fergus Falls Community College and Moorhead State University. He was inducted into the Fergus Falls Athletic Hall of Fame in May 2013.

Tony Rendz reminded me through an e-mail that “Fuzz” also partnered with Jack Weiss to win the Pot O’ Gold Golf Tournament at Pebble Lake Golf Course in 1990. Tony said Jack’s most vivid memories were of how “Fuzz” was so solid for three days and how excited he was when they finally won on Monday afternoon.

Tom Hintgen and I were privileged to serve with “Fuzz” as the selection committee for the Fergus Falls Chamber of Commerce Sports Hall of Fame. His knowledge of and passion for Fergus Falls High School sports, and his home town, was unsurpassed.  An Otter through and through.

I am very thankful that I got to know “Fuzz” and thoroughly enjoyed our visits through the years and appreciated the way he supported all the student athletes at FFHS through the years as a coach, fan and employee of District 544. He took great pride in caring for the Otter football field and all of the facilities he oversaw.  “Fuzz” will be missed greatly but will be remembered fondly by all who came in contact with him.
