Cowboys Overcome 17 Point Deficit to Beat Nuggets

Breckenridge defeated Hawley by a score of 64-60 in a Section 8AA semifinal boys basketball clash at Moorhead High School on Monday night. The halftime score was 32-25, Hawley.

Trailing 11-8 the Nuggets went on a twenty point run to open up a 28-11 lead late in the first half. Breckenridge ended the first half on a 14-4 run and went on a 19-7 run at the beginning of the second half to take a 44-39 lead. Leading scorers for Breckenridge were Noah Christensen with 36, Derek Dahlgren with 10, and Hunter Feigum with 8. Christensen added 16 rebounds and 6 blocks as well.

"This was as tough and hard-nosed of a victory as we have had in years,” said Breckenridge Assistant Coach Derek Grahn. “Hawley played an incredible game and we had to claw our way back numerous times. Noah Christensen was huge for us and showed why he is one of the top players in the region. We are looking forward to getting another shot at Perham on Thursday and look forward to seeing all the green in Concordia!"

Breckenridge made 18-of-25 free throws in the game. The Cowboys are now 24-5 on the season. 

Top-seeded Perham won the other semifinal contest, beating Perham by the score of 62-39.
