Pee Wee B Gold Ends Regular Season with 17-14-1 Record

The Quality Circuits Peewee B Gold ended its regular season with a 17-14-1 record. All three games this weekend were very important for the teams seeding in the District Tournament. The PWB District 15 Tournament starts February 16, 2017 in either Morris or Long Prairie. Morris will host the top 8 teams to determine who will advance to the Regional tournament. Long Prairie will host the consolation tournament for the remaining teams in the District.

Saturday the Otters traveled to Benson to play the Morris-Benson (MB) Blue and MB Silver at the Benson Civic Center. The first game of the day was against MB Blue. This game was going to be low scoring by both teams.

Fergus Falls scored at 6:10 in the first period by Gavin Goepferd unassisted as the only goal of the period for either team. Goepferd added his second goal of the game on an assist by Luke Norgard at 4:06 for the only goal in the second period. MB got on the board at 4:27 of the third on a power play goal to end the scoring for the game. Otters winning 2-1.

Ryan Nelson recorded 14 saves on 15 shots on goal. The Otters had 26 shots on goal in the victory. MB had 1 penalty with 4 for the Otters.

Game two of the day was against MB Silver. Silver is the number one team in the District. The opening period Silver recorded 4 goals and never looked back. Neither team scored in the second period that had the Otters on the defensive most of the period. Nelson had 17 saves in the second period.

Joey Johnson got the Otters on the board in the third period with a goal at 2:21 unassisted. MB added their 5th and final goal of the game. The final score was 5-1 in favor of MB. Nelson recorded 25 saves on 30 shots on goal. The Otters had 6 shots on goal for the game. The Otters had 3 penalties in the game and none for MB.

Sunday afternoon the Quality Circuits PWB Gold hosted Walker at the Community Ice Arena for their final regular season and District game of the year. The first goal of the game was scored by Walker at 10:13 of the first period. Goepferd tied it up at 13:39 with an assist going to Riley McGovern to end the scoring in the first period.

Goepferd added a goal at 4:36 unassisted in the second period. Johnson got on the board at 5:51 with an assist going to Andrew Heacox. Goepferd got his third hat trick of the year at 9:11 with an assist to Sam Dirkman.

The third period had Johnson getting his second goal of the game on an assist from McGovern at 5:45. Norgard ended the scoring for the game at 14:24 with an unassisted goal. The Otters earned a 6-1 victory.

Nelson recorded 13 saves on 14 shots on goal. The Otters had 23 shots on goal for the game. Each team recorded 5 penalties for the game.

The Quality Circuits PWB Gold will travel to Morris on Friday for opening action in the MN District 15 Peewee B hockey double elimination tournament. The Otters earned the 8th seed in the District out of 15 teams. At 2:00 PM, The Otters will play Morris-Benson Silver, the number one team in the district at the Lee Community Center in the first game of the tournament.
