Lady Knights Win at Hillcrest

By Craig Olson - Fergus Falls, MN

The West Central Area girls basketball team traveled to Fergus Falls on Monday night and took home a 54-30 victory over the Hillcrest Comets.

Ella VanKempen led the Knights with a double-double (16 points, 12 rebounds).  Brianna Kreft (6 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals), Amanda Drechsel (6 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists), Kaleigh Anderson (5 points), Kaitlyn Sanstead (5 points, 4 steals, 2 assists), Izzy Wittbrodt (4 points, 3 rebounds), Kaylyn Ulrich (3 points, 3 rebounds), Charlette Kohman (3 points, 3 rebounds), Demara Bumgardner (2 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals) and Hailey Bennet (2 points, 2 assists) all contributed for WCA.

"We played together throughout the night as a team," said WCA Head Coach Eric Schoenbauer.  "There were a few times we could have stopped working as a group and tried doing things by ourselves, instead we kept working together and made each other better."

Olivia Foss (18 points, 5 rebounds) had a huge game for the lady Comets.  Anna Murray (4 points, 5 rebounds), Cassy Twedt (4 points, 4 rebounds) and Paige Schultz (4 rebounds) also contributed.

"Olivia took control on offense and was able to get us going on our end of the court," said Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark.  "Cassy gave the team a great spark off the bench and came up with some steals that led to easy baskets.  Offensively, we struggled to put the ball in the basket and had too many turnovers.  We played great defense in the first half and played hard the entire game.  West Central shot the ball really well and played solid defense."

Hillcrest will host Rothsay on Thursday night.

West Central Area (17-6) will host C-G-B on Thursday night.
