Chargers Defeat Lady Battlers in LEC Contest

By Craig Olson - Evansville, MN

The Brandon-Evansville Chargers held a slim 29-25 halftime lead over Battle Lake on Thursday night and wound up beating the Battlers 50-39 in Evansville.

"Great team win for us as we had ten girls scoring," said B-E Head Coach Sam Lange.  "We struggled from the free throw line in the first half which kept the game close, but we got great play from our bench in the second half and hit the key free throws at the end."

Leaders for Brandon-Evansville were Sara Jacobson (9 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists), Haddey Zastrow (7 points), Lauren Landowski (7 points, 3 rebounds) and Allie Satterllie (7 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists).  Emily Bukkila led the team with 3 assists and had 2 steals.

“We played a tight one tonight against the Chargers but came up a little short in the end,” commented Battle Lake Head Coach David Marso. “Tessa Kortlever scored 12 of her team high 13 points in the first half.  We were able to get the game tied part way through the second half, but late in the game, we fell behind and had to try and foul.  The Chargers made some big free throws at the end to secure the win.  The girls played really hard tonight and we certainly had some chances late in the game.  At the end of the game, the Chargers just made a few more plays than we did.”

Allison Marso scored 7 and Makenna Tysdal had 6 for the Battlers.

Brandon-Evansville (9-10) will play at Underwood Monday night.

Battle Lake (6-13) is off until Thursday when they travel to Rothsay.
