Underwood Girls Improve LEC Mark to 8-1 with Win Over Rothsay

By Craig Olson - Rothsay, MN

The Underwood girls basketball team recorded a 65-24 Little Eight Conference victory in Rothsay on Thursday night, improving their overall record to 14-5 and their conference mark to 8-1.

Kayla Rocholl led four Rockets in double figures with 15 points. She also added six steals. Sydney Hovland (14 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals), Morgan Evavold (12 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals) and Brenna Tinjum (10 points, 7 rebounds, 6 steals) were also in double digits. Ally Johnson added 7 points and 5 rebounds. Corina Mark dished out 7 assists.

“Give Rothsay credit, they really outplayed us in the first half as we didn’t play our best ball,” said Underwood Head Coach Brian Hovland. “We were careless on the offensive end and were slow on the defensive end. The second half the girls played much better on both ends of the floor.”

Rothsay was led by Rachel Brenden (6 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals), Kenzie Lankow (6 points, 7 rebounds), Lexie Lankow (9 rebounds) and Jenna Fabre (4 points, 4 steals, 4 rebounds).

“We contested their great shooters in the first half, and only trailed by 9 at the half,” reported Rothsay Head Coach Anita Heier. “They came out in the second half and shot very well.”

Underwood will host Brandon-Evansville on Monday night, while Rothsay is off until Thursday when they will enertain Battle Lake.
