Poor Shooting Night Leads to Loss for Lady Spartans

The M State lady Spartans struggled to get things going early in the game Wednesday as they fell behind 20-8 after one quarter and trailed 37-23 at the half against St. Cloud Technical and Community College. The Cyclones wound up winning 65-46. 

“We had a very slow start to a hot shooting St Cloud team and we weren't able to dig ourselves out of the 1st quarter,” said Head coach Janice Hendrickson of M State. “We had some good looks throughout the game, but weren’t able to get our shots to fall.” 

Leaders for M State were Kassandra Algarate with 13 points and Taylin Schleicher with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Macky Warne added 7 points and 10 rebounds and Samantha Lupkes had 8 points and 9 boards. 

The lady Spartans hit just 23% (14-60) of their shots, but did knock down 77% (17-22) of their free throws. They held a 46-38 edge on the boards.

Amaya Murray with 15 points. Makayla Paggen had 13 and Ashley Cassens finished with 11. Rian Lee grabbed 19 rebounds and contributed 9 points. The Cyclones shot 39% (24-61) from the field. 

M State will host Ridgewater on Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm. The Spartans will be hosting their annual Chili feed and Silent Auction fundraisers for the baseball team. Bernie and Sharon Erickson, long time Spartan Booster Club officers will also be inducted into the Spartan Hall of Fame between games.
