Konynenbelt and Frustol Key Comet Victory Over Ashby

By Craig Olson - Fergus Falls, MN

The Ashby Arrows traveled to Fergus Falls on Tuesday night where they dropped a 53-41 decision to the Hillcrest boys basketball team.

“Our team defensive pressure set a great tone for us in the first half by yielding 3 first-half field goals,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Gregg Preston.  “Eric Konynenbelt (19 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists) had one of his best games of the year shooting the ball, defending, rebounding, and decision-making. Sander Frustol (16 points, 12 rebounds) and Zak Zwiers (8 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists) worked very hard, defended, and boarded in the lane all game, combining for 22 rebounds. Nick Foss (4 points, 2 steals) and Sam Ihrke (3 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists) did many little things well and as a team, we controlled the paint and the tempo. We were pleased with our effort and outcome against a physical, aggressive, and much-improved Arrow team.”

Offensively the Arrows were led by Scott Johnson with 18, followed by Jaden Norby with 9 and Christian Norby with 9 as well.  Dakota Ecker added 3 and Noah Johnson chipped in 2.  The Arrows shot 33 % from the field, 57 % from the free throw line and only 27 % from beyond the arc.

Defensively, Jaden Norby had 9 rebounds and Scott Johnson and Christian Norby each had 5.  Noah Johnson had 4 steals

“Hillcrest's tough defense took us right out of our game tonight and we couldn't get the ball to drop in the bucket,” stated Ashby Head Coach John Kent. “We have a couple of days of practice before we face Rothsay on Friday night for another conference game.”

Hillcrest (7-7) will host Underwood on Friday night.
