Battle Lake Girls Defeat Hillcrest

By Craig Olson - Battle Lake, MN

The Battle Lake girls basketball team featured a balanced scoring attack on Monday night as they recorded a 58-38 Little Eight Conference victory over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy.

Allison Marso poured in a game high 20 points, dished out 3 assists and came up with 4 steals for the Battlers. Stacy Christensen scored 8 points, had 3 assists and pulled down 4 rebounds, and Kate Christensen added 7 points. Halie Johnson and Tessa Kortlever contributed 6 points apiece and Makenna Tysdal chipped in with five.

"We played a pretty close first quarter but were able to go on an 8-0 run to end the first half," said Battle Lake Head Coach David Marso.  "In the second half the lead grew a bit, but the Comets came back and got it down to within nine points.  We finished the game pretty strong and extended the lead to a final margin of 20 points.  I thought we played a nice all around game tonight, but the Comets kept fighting and made us play the whole game.  Allison had a nice night tonight and really gave us an offensive boost, but it was good to see seven different players contribute to the scoring."

Olivia Foss scored 14 to lead the Comets and Makenzie Foss scored 9 points, making 5-of-6 free throws. Anna Murray put together a solid all-around game with 7 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Paige Schultz scored 8 points and Anna Rasmussen pulled down six rebounds.

Battle Lake (6-11) will travel to Wheaton to face the Warriors on Tuesday night and to Evansville for a conference battle with Brandon/Evansville on Thursday.

Hillcrest (1-14) will host Parkers Prairie on Thursday night.
