Chargers Shoot 46%, Hold Comets to 33 Points in LEC Win

By Craig Olson - Brandon, MN

The Brandon-Evansville (8-6, 3-3 LEC) boys basketball team hit 46% (20-43) of their field goal attempts, hit 8-of-19 (42%) 3’s and made 10-of-14 (71%) free throws on Friday night as they recorded a 58-33 Little Eight Conference home court victory over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy (6-6, 4-3 LEC).

“This was our best game of the year,” said B-E Head Coach Trent Hintermeister. “We jumped out to a 13-0 lead to start the game and didn't let up. We led at the break 38-14 and I couldn't have been happier with our all-around game. We came out in the second half and continued to play great defense and we were able to get every player on our varsity roster in the game. Unfortunately, we were without Tanner Bitzan tonight who was sick, but I am very proud of how our other guys stepped up and played.”

Taylor Bitzan led the Chargers with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including making 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. James Strese joined him in double figures with 12 points, while adding 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Darrin Wibstad finished with7 points, 6 assists and 8 rebounds, and Jake Hintermeister had a solid floor game with 5 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Marshall Riedel had 7 points and 6 assists.

“Taylor Bitzan was great tonight,” noted Coach Hintermeister. “His defense was on point and his offensive game was even better. I'm most excited to see how we play Monday against a solid Rothsay team when they come to town. We won our first 2 games of the year and haven't been on a winning or losing streak since.”

Hillcrest shot just 30% (12-40) and made only 6-of-16 free throws.  The Comets were led by Sander Frustol (11 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals) and Brent Ferenczy (7 points, 8 rebounds).

"Taylor Bitzan and James Strese along with the rest of the Chargers played well defensively, outrebounded us and shot the ball very well," said Hillcrest Head Coach Gregg Preston.
