Comet Girls Earn First Victory

By Craig Olson - Fergus Falls, MN

The Hillcrest girls basketball team recorded their first win of the season when they defeated Oak Grove Lutheran Academy from Fargo by the score of 46-40.

Hillcrest was led by Mackenzie Foss (11 points, 5 rebounds), Olivia Foss (14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists), Anna Murray (7 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists), Paige Schultz (14 points, 4 rebounds) and Anna Rasmussen (5 rebounds). Hillcrest was 19-for-41 (46%) from the field.

“This was a fun game for our girls,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark. “I thought we played with confidence from start to finish.  I was happy with both our defensive and rebounding effort. We were hustling after every ball. Oak Grove took the lead late in the second half, but our girls were able to stop their run and get that momentum back our way. We took care of the ball at the end of the game and we knocked down our free throws.  Paige Schultz shot well for us and did a good job directing our offense. Olivia and Mackenzie had a couple big offensive plays for us towards the end of the game and that energy carried over into our defense.”

The Comets have a busy week ahead, starting with a Little Eight Conference game at Battle Lake on Monday. The Comets will host Parkers Prairie on Thursday, and will travel to Lake Park for a Saturday afternoon contest against Lake Park-Audubon.
