Lady Arrows Defeat Hillcrest in Overtime

By Craig Olson - Ashby, MN

The Ashby girls basketball team recorded a 44-40 overtime victory over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy on Tuesday night in Ashby.

"Tonight was story about two different halves," stated Ashby Head Coach Troy Mickelson.  "In the first half we did not play well at all and Hillcrest took advantage of that.  We were down as much as ten points in the first half, however, we went on a run at th eend of the half to cut the lead to five going into the break.  We came out and played much better in the second half, looking for open shots and also sharing the ball much better.  We were able to take the lead with about two minutes left in the game and got into some foul trouble.  As time ran out we were tied up and went into overitme.  Kalista Aamot (7 points, 4 rebounds) and Courtney Koefod (9 points, 5 steals, 6 rebounds) both had fouled out of the game whichmeant some of our other players had to step up and they did!  We were able to get a couple of good looks and build a lead in OT, eventually coming out with the win."

Celi Nelson led the Arrows with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals.  Tae-Yah Johnson added 4 points, 8 boards and 4 assists, and Cathryn Koefod distributed 4 assists.

“Our girls played extremely hard,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark. “We were without Olivia Foss and Anna Murray for overtime and our other girls really stepped up. We rebounded the ball well and I was very happy with our defensive intensity. Our decision making on offense led to turnovers and forced shots. Ashby played well and knocked down their free throws at the end of the game. Olivia Foss played great tonight on both ends of the floor. Audra Ewan played tremendous defense and came up with some big rebounds.”

Foss (22 points, 11 rebounds), Murray (2 points, 6 rebounds), Mackenzie Foss (5 points, 6 rebounds), Anna Rasmussen (4 points, 6 rebounds) and Ewan (1 point, 4 rebounds) were the leaders for the lady Comets.
