Chargers Allow Only 30 Points in Win Over Arrows

By Craig Olson - Ashby, MN

The Brandon-Evansville boys basketball team traveled to Ashby and defeated the Arrows 47-30 on Tuesday night.

“We got out early and ran the court well in the first half,” said B-E Head Coach Trent Hintermeister. “Our defense was once again the key in tonight’s victory. We were able to get ten guys in the game tonight and I thought it was a good night for our bench. Darrin Wibstad came off the bench and was a real positive spark.”

The Chargers hit 46% (19-41) of their field goal attempts. Wibstad had 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting and Tanner Bitzan finished with 11 points of 5-of-8 shooting, while grabbing a team high 7 rebounds and coming up with 3 steals. Marshall Riedel dished out four assists.

“We have a tough game on Friday night against Parkers Prairie at home, finally,” said Head Coach Trent Hintermeister of the Chargers. “We have played 10 of our first 12 games on the road this season, so I’m happy with having a winning record at this point. We need to continue to improve if we want to compete in our tough section at the end of the year.”

The Arrows were led on the offensive side of the game by Scott Johnson who had 15 points, followed by Christian Norby with 12. Jaden Norby had two and Noah Johnson rounded out the scoring with 1.  The Arrows shot a measly 24% from the field, 16% from beyond the arc, and 66% from the free throw line.

Defensively, Dakota Ecker had 4 steals and Noah Johnson had 3.  Christian Norby had 11 rebounds followed by his brother, Jaden, with 7.

“We were out played in the game as soon as the ball went up in the air at the jump,” said Ashby Head Coach John Kent. “We had way too many turnovers and made too many mistakes.  Give credit to coach Hintermeister for getting his team ready to play us.  The Chargers played outstanding defense and took us right out of our game.  Time to regroup as we head to Pelican Rapids on Thursday to face the Vikings and then to Underwood in another little 8 conference game on Friday.”
