Lady Knights Shut Down by Morris Area Tigers

By Eric Schoenbauer - Barrett, MN

The Morris Area Tigers came to Barrett to take on the WCA Lady Knights in a non-conference game which the lady Knight won 54-47.

“The first four minutes of the game were aggressive and intense with the Knights building a 17-5 lead,” reported Head Coach Eric Schoenbauer of the Knights. “The Tigers would match the intensity and the game was back and forth leading to a halftime score of 30-18 in favor of the Knights. The second half began back and forth until the Tigers went on a run to cut the lead to 43-45. The Knights made some big plays down the stretch and hit their free-throws to conserve a victory.”

The Lady Knights were led by Ella Van Kempen with 12 points, 8 rebounds, 6 steals, 3 assists and a block. Brianna Kreft and Morgan Woodle each put in 10 points. Kreft added 11 rebounds, 2 assists and a block. Woodle grabbed 4 rebounds, a steal, a block and assisted on a made basket. Charlette Kohman scored 8 points and added 3 rebounds. Lexi Bright had 6 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Hailey Bennett put in 4 points with an assist, a steal and a rebound. Amanda Dreschel and Demara Bumgardner each had 2 points. Bumgardner added 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. Dreschel had an assist. Kailtyn Sanstead logged solid minutes and did a lot of the dirty work to make us successful.

“Tonight the girls came out ready to play and fed off of each other’s energy,” said coach Schoenbauer. “Our defense tonight led us to a victory. The girls did all of the little things needed to win the game and they came up with some big plays to ensure a victory down the stretch.” He concluded with this statement, “It is a lot of fun seeing the girls not worrying about who did what, but instead focusing on what we need to do to be successful. That makes this team special.”
