Pearson Leads Otters Past Apollo with Double Double

Junior Lily Pearson scored 25 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to lead the Fergus Falls girls basketball team to a 69-55 win over St. Cloud Apollo on Thursday night at the Kennedy Secondary School Gold Gymnasium in Fergus Falls.

With Fergus Falls leading 15-14 the Otters went on a 9 point run to make it 24-14.  St. Cloud Apollo cut the lead to 26-21, however, the Otters then scored ten straight points, increasing their lead to 36-21.  The halftime score was 36-24 and at one point in the second half the Otters led by 24 points.

"We did a nice job of getting the ball inside to Lily tonight," said Head Coach Brad Strand.  "We also had three girls in double figures and three more with 8, 8, and 7 points.  I really like that balance."

Kate Strand and Tori Ratz each had 5 assists on the night and Sabrina Fronning led the team with 6 steals and also had six rebounds.  Fronning and Strand joined Pearson in double digits with 11 and 10 points, respectively.  Ratz and Gretchen Davis each scored 8 points and Sam Evavold added 7 points.

Lariah Washington scored 16 of her 21 points in the second half to lead St. Cloud Apollo, and Chloe Swanson contributed 18 points.  The Eagles were without starting guard Ashley Koepp, who averages 10 points and 7 assists per game.

Fergus Falls improves to 10-3 overall and 5-2 in the Central Lakes Conference.  The Otters will play at Detroit Lakes on Tuesday night.  The varsity game time has been changed to 6:00pm.

The Fergus Falls JV team won 58-23 with Ellie Colbeck and McKenzie Braeger scoring 12 points apiece.  The C Squad won 57-3, led by Anna Anderson (15) and Svea Smestad (13).
