Battle Lake Girls Beat Rothsay for Third Win in Four Games

By Craig Olson - Battle Lake, MN

Battle Lake won for the third time in four games when they handed Rothsay a 60-44 loss in a Little Eight Conference girls basketball game on Tuesday night in Battle Lake.

Three Battlers were in double figures with Stacy Christensen leading the way with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Lexi Newark scored 11 points and had 4 assists, and Allison Marso finished with 10 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Kate Christensen contributed 9 points.

Battle Lake shot 46% from the field, hit 4-of-10 3’s, went 10-of-13 from the foul line and dished out 20 assists in the game.

“The girls really came out to play tonight and we were able to jump out to a nice lead early in the game,” said Battle Lake Head Coach David Marso. “Our defensive effort was our best all year and it carried over onto the other end of the floor. We shot well and played with a lot of energy. We also had really nice balance to our scoring with three girls in double figures. Halie Johnson had a superb night defensively for us.”

Leaders for Rothsay were Jayna Gronewold with 13 points and Kenzie Lankow with 10.

Battle Lake (4-8) will host New York Mills on Friday, while Rothsay entertains Hillcrest on Friday and Lake Park-Audubon on Saturday.
