Dorn Scores 23 to Lead Battlers Past Vikings

By Craig Olson - Moorhead, MN

The Battle Lake boys basketball team built a 27-16 halftime lead, increased their lead to sixteen points early in the second half and went on to record a 57-45 win over the Pelican Rapids Vikings on Saturday afternoon at Concordia College in Moorhead.

“We played pretty well throughout the first half,” said Battle Lake Head Coach Dan Peterka. “We were able to build lead into halftime. Fortunately, we were able to hang on for the win against a scrappy Pelican Rapids team.”

Isaiah Dorn led the Battlers with 23 points and 7 rebounds. Bennet Cameron finished with 12 points and 7 boards, and Nick VanErp contributed 7 points and 5 rebounds.

Leaders for the Vikings were Jacob Gottenborg (13 points) and Hayden Christenson (10 points). The Vikings were without Oakley Kress who missed the game with an ankle injury he sustained in their win over DGF on Friday night.

“Battle Lake got up on us early and was able to maintain that lead pretty much for the entire game,” stated Pelican Rapids Head Coach John Gullingsrud. “We didn’t match their intensity from the start and once we dug ourselves that hole we had a hard time getting any momentum back as they executed very well on both ends of the court. We were never able to string some good possessions together and go on a run to give ourselves a chance in this one.”

Battle Lake (7-3) will host Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in their next game on Thursday, while Pelican Rapids has a home game Monday against Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal and plays at Barnesville on Tuesday.
