Underwood Girls Force 30 B-E Turnovers in 60-36 Win

By Craig Olson - Evansville, MN

The Underwood girls basketball team improved their record to 8-3 on the season with a 60-36 win over the Brandon-Evansville Chargers in Evansville on Friday night.  Underwood led 32-20 at the half.  The Rockets forced 30 B-E turnovers in the game.

"After a good start we struggled in the second half and had to really buckle down offensively and defensively," said Head Coach Brian Hovland of the Rockets.  "We got some really good looks in our offense."

Kayla Rocholl (16 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals), Brenna Tinjum (12 points, 5 assists, 7 steals) and Corina Mark (8 points, 3 rebounds) led the Rockets.

"We started off this game a little slow offensively, but did a great job fighting back," said Brandon-Evansville Head coach Sam Lange.  "I'm really proud of how our girls stepped up and played hard in a tough spot.  We were down our top scorer and point guard, Sara Jacobson, who was out sick.  Allie Satterlie was back, but went down with an injury early and was out the rest of the game.  Once again we had great bench play and Emily Bukkila did a great job filling in for Sara.  We started the second half great and pulled within five, but then a few things went the wrong way and we were not able to keep pace with Underwood as we had trouble with their very good defensive pressure.  I like how our team plays and am excited for where we are headed especially when we are finally healthy."

Bukkila led the Chargers with 9 points and Lauren Landowski finished with 8 points, 7 rebounds and two steals.  Madison Quinn distributed 2 assists, scored five points and pulle down 4 rebounds, and Haddey Zastrow scored 7 points.  Brittany Korkowski led the team with 3 steals, while pulling down five boards.

Underwood will face a pair of Little Eight Conference opponents next week, hosting Parkers Prairie on Tuesday and traveling to Ashby on Friday.
