Christensen's Big Night Leads Cowboys Past Vikings

By Craig Olson - Pelican Rapids, MN

Breckenridge's Noah Christensen led all scorers with 25 points as the Cowboys beat Pelican Rapids 58-36 in a game played at Pelican Rapids on Thursday night. Breckenridge led 33-14 at the half, and outscored the Vikings by three in the second half to secure the Heart O'Lakes conference win.

Derek Dahlgren was the second leading scorer for Breckenridge with 8 points. Christensen added 11 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists. Hunter Feigum distributed 3 assists.

Pelican Rapids was led by Hayden Christenson's 9 points and Oakley Kress added 8.

"We really struggled offensively against the pressure defense of the Cowboys and had a hard time getting anything going on that end of the floor," commented head coach John Gullingsrud. "We have to get better at being stronger with the ball and making better decisions with it against teams the caliber of Breckenridge. We had too many possessions where they were able to force us into turnovers or shots that were not in the rhythm of our offense."

Pelican Rapids fell to 3-3 overall while Breckenridge improved their record to 5-2. Next up for the Vikings is the Minnesota National Bank Holiday Classic, which they will host next week. Pelican Rapids will face Underwood at 7:45 pm on Thursday, December 28th.

"We played a tough, physical game tonight,” said Breckenridge Assistant Coach Derek Grahn. “It took a lot of toughness to grind it out. It's hard to play your best game every night but our guys did a great job of finding a way to get it done. It will be good for the guys to rest and get rejuvenated over the Christmas break and come back fresh next week."

Breckenridge will travel to Crookston to face the Pirates next Thursday.
