With some significant mid-week matches set to occur Wednesday evening in Minnesota College Athletic Conference volleyball, the NJCAA current national Top 10 poll has a heavy MCAC flavor.
Four MCAC programs are featured in the weekly shout-out to the best NJCAA volleyball teams, including Minnesota State which cracks into the Top 5 this week at #4, leading the way for three Southern Division and one Northern Division teams recognized by the NJCAA. St. Cloud Technical & Community College is listed at #5 and Central Lakes College is the #6 team. Ridgewater College was selected #9 in this weeks poll.
Coach Abby Crowser's squad was the first Southern Division team to solve the St. Cloud Technical & Community College puzzle, handing the Cyclones their first - and only - Divisional defeat so far in 2017. M State wrapped up their week by claiming a non-conference win over the JV of Concordia College, running their overall record to 16-4. Within MCAC play, M State sports a 7-3 mark and will face Minnesota West and Riverland Community College in Friday-Saturday road trip this weekend.
While St. Could suffered their first defeat to the Spartans, they rebounded to defeat Western Technical College and still sit in first place in the MCAC Southern Division at 9-1, with a 16-4 overall mark. Coach Heidi Smith's squad have a busy week ahead, with a non-conference tilt against NJCAA Division II program Dakota County Technical College on Wednesday, followed by a pair of MCAC contests on the road at Riverland Community College and Rochester CTC.
#6 Central Lakes will face only one MCAC foe this week;Itasca Community College comes to Brainerd on Wednesday night for a 6:30pm match-up. The #6 Raiders will head to Devils Lake, North Dakota to test themselves against some NJCAA Division II competition in tournament play over the weekend.
#9 Ridgewater College is back in Minnesota after a trip to the Lone Star state, where the Warriors tangled with several NJCAA Division I programs and the host, Richland College. The 9th rated Ridgewater squad will have one MCAC contest this week, traveling to Worthington, Minnesota to take on the LadyJays of Minnesota West. After Wednesday's road match, Ridgewater is off until they face #5 St. Cloud Technical & Community College on Wednesday, October 19th in a key Southern Division contest.
