Jason Retzlaff (Inducted 2017)

Jason Retzlaff Biography from Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, August 12, 2017.

Born and raised in Fergus Falls, Jason Retzlaff graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1996 and competed in basketball and track.

From 1996 to 1998 he played basketball for Fergus Falls Community College (now M State). The Spartans were coached by his father, Dave, who also is a member of the Fergus Falls Chamber of Commerce Sports Hall of Fame.

In 1998 the Spartans, with Jason as a starting guard, won the National Junior College Division III national title with a 29-0 overall record.

He was a two-time first team basketball all-American and was named NJCAA Division III player of the year in 1997-98.

From 1998 to 2000, Jason played basketball for NDSU in Fargo. He graduated with a teaching degree in Physical Education

As a Bison player, he was named North Central Conference Newcomer of the Year and was a two-time all-conference selection.

From 2001 to 2003 he was assistant basketball coach at NDSU and earned his Master’s Degree in Athletic Administration

In 2004 Jason was hired at M State as an instructor, head golf coach and assistant men’s basketball coach. He served as head men’s basketball coach for the Spartans from 2006 to 2012.

He currently is employed at M State as the head golf coach, in his 13th season, and is co-athletic director and instructor. His Spartan golf team won the 2012 NJCAA Division III national championship.

Jason also broadcasts local sports for Leighton Broadcasting, in his fourth year.

He and his wife, Stephanie, have a son, Charlie, and live in Fergus Falls.
