Shada 3-on-3 Tournament Set for June 9-11

By Craig Olson - Pelican Rapids, MN

The Shada 3-on-3 basketball tournament, which is held in Pelican Rapids, is the longest running, as well as the largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament in the upper tri-state area.  Last year's event broke the 1,000 player mark as over 250 teams competed in this annual event held in the Heart of the Lakes area.  The 2017 tournament will be held June 9, 10 and 11.

There is added excitement for this year's tournament as Pelican Rapids High School has recently completed the addition of a new sports complex that promises to make this year's tournament elite.

The tournament will start on Friday, June 9 with the elementary divisions.  Girls and boys can compete in divisions that include this year's (2016-17 School Year) 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th graders.  The elementary athletes compete on Friday only.  Tournament play starts in the morning and runs into the evening with 3rd and 4th graders playing earlier in the day and 5th and 6th graders finishing out later that evening.

Saturday, June 10 and Sunday, June 11 will be the days that junior high through varsity boys' and girls' teams, along with post high school men and women (including a usually talented "college experience" division) play in a two day tournament.  According to tournament director, Doug Bruggeman, the new facility will really be a benefit to the varsity and post high school divisions as the new courts will have a lot more room for their bigger bodies to move around.
