Chargers Blank Bulldogs on 2-Hitter

By Craig Olson - Battle Lake, MN

The Brandon-Evansville baseball team blanked Ottertail Central 7-0 on two hits Thursday.  Kevin Campbell (5IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, 5K) was the winning pitcher for the Chargers.

The Chargers struck early, scoring three times in the second inning.  Keagan Schiele got B-E on the board with a bases loaded single.  The next batter, Jesse Perleberg, was hit by a pitch, scoring Tanner BitzanGaven Jacobson scored the third run of the inning on an infield grounder off the bat of Marshall Riedel.

The Chargers extended their lead in the third inning when Kevin Campbell doubled and Tanner Bitzan delivered an RBI single.

Brandon-Evansville added single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings on RBI hits from Jake Hintermeister, Keagan Schiele and Kevini Campbell.

B-E was led by Schiele (3-3. R, 2B, SB), Campbell (3-4, 2R, 2B, SB), Riedel (1-2, 2SB, R, HBP) and Bitzan (2-2, 2R, 3SB, BB).

"Today the guys seemed focused from the first pitch until the final pitch of the game," said B-E Head Coach Brian Perleberg.  "As a team, I felt we had many good at bats and put the ball in play.  Defensively, both teams played well despite the cooler conditons and I was happy with the quality start that we received from Kevin Campbell on the mound.  Kevin is such a great competitor and has been very consistent for us in all of his starts this year."

Brody Rocholl and Cole Brandner both singled for the Bulldogs.

"We had a couple of chances to score, especially in the fourth inning," said OTC Head Coach Ryan Hendrickson.  "I am really impressed with how our young pitchers are handling themselves.  Of the seven hits Daxton Olson gave up, six of them were singles.  We had a lot of mental mistakes and several errors which made those single hurt.  All the while Daxton just moved forward and pitched really well.  He's only a sohomore and he is showing that he is going to be a good leader."
