Carleen (Rose) Holm (Inducted 2012)

Carleen (Rose) Holm Biography from the Hall of Fame Sports Induction Ceremony, June 30, 2012.

Carleen (Rose) Holm was an outstanding Fergus Falls basketball player and all-around athlete during the mid to late 1980's.

She was a four-year starter in basketball at FFHS, earning letters all four of those years.

"We had competitive and respected basketball teams from 1986 to 1989," she said.  "We lost in the regional games to advance to state two years in a row."

(Rose) Holm scored over 1,000 points and at one time had several records for rebounds, assists and steals.  The former Otter star feels that records are made to be broken and is pleased that her achievements have been surpassed by succeeding Otter girls basketball players.

She was a five-year letter winner in tennis, attaining fourth place at state during one of those years.  She was a four-year letter winner in Otter track and field, advancing to state in the hurdles competition.  She was also part of a relay team that set a FFHS school record which has since been broken.

After graduating from FFHS, (Rose) Holm attended South Dakota State University on a full basketball scholarship.  She was a four-year starter for the SDSU Women Jackrabbits, coached by Nancy Neiber.  She scored over 1,000 points in college and had over 740 career rebounds.  "Being a part of the SDSU Women's Basketball program was a wonderful experience," she said.

The former Otter athlete is currently working as a middle school counselor at Mickelson Middle School in Brookings, South Dakota.  She has been married to Scott Holm for 18 years.  They have two children, Emily (16) and Carter (13).  Scott is a safety engineer at 3M in Brookings.  He was selected into his high school sports hall of fame this past fall in Brookings.

"In my spare time, I enjoy running," stated (Rose) Holm.  "I ran the Twin Cities Marathon in 2007 and have done several half marathons, 10K's and 5K's over the years.  It's fun to stay in shape, but for me, running has been mostly for stress relief.  Being inducted into this Hall of Fame is such an honor because I know there are so many other worthy Fergus Falls student athletes.  I'm grateful."
