Roger Sinner (Inducted 1986)

Roger Sinner Biography from the Hall of Fame Sports Banquet, April 28, 1986.

Roger Sinner advanced farther than any Otter baseball player coming out of Fergus Falls High School. He played minor league in the San Francisco Giants organization, ending his career in 1964 after playing in Double and Triple A leagues for four seasons.
A 1958 Fergus High grad, Sinner was an all-around athlete attaining WCCO all-state status in football and basketball. Known to many as "Pudge," the tall 6-foot 3-inch righthander tossed several no-hitters his junior and senior years as a star baseball player for the Otters.
In basketball, Sinner was superb in the Region 6 game in 1958 when Fergus Falls narrowly missed a return trip to the state basketball tournament. He scored 25 points in a 72-71 heartbreaking loss to Brainerd. A year earlier he was a junior member of the Otter 1957 state basketball tourney squad.
A member of the Fergus Falls Red Sox baseball team during the summer months, Sinner participated with the squad at the state Class B tournament in 1960. That same year he signed a contract with the San Francisco Giants.
In 1961 Sinner pitched Class AA baseball at Springfield, Massachusetts. His first year in the minor leagues was rewarding, with a record of 11-12. More important, he was fifth in the league for ERA among all starting pitchers. The righthander also pitched the pennant-winning game for Springfield, a member of the Eastern League.
In 1962 he played baseball at El Paso, Texas, in Class AA. Some of his teammates included Manny Mota, Jesus Alou, and Jose Cardinal. He pitched with Gaylord Perry at Tacoma in 1963 but arm trouble ended his career a year later.
Sinner and his family have resided at Carmel, Indiana, just outside Indianapolis. He is Director of Animal Products Sales for the Elanco Division of Eli Lilly Company. He and his wife, Bettye, have three children, Tara, Paul, and Greg.
