FM Acro Team to Perform in Fergus Falls Thursday Night

Voted the number one halftime show in the NBA, the F-M Acro Team has been bringing crowds to their feet since 1969 with their high flying acrobatic show.  On Thursday night fans of the Fergus Falls boys basketball team will get a chance to experience their feats at halftime of the game with Brainerd.

The performance includes tumbling, synchronized mini-tramping and hand balancing.

The F-M Acro Team has been the featured halftime entertainment at countless high school, college, university and NBA basketball games over the past two decades.  They have also performed at many benefits, corporate gatherings and other special events.

Allison Peterson Commits to NDSCS

NDSCS Head Coach Jane Passa is excited to announce the signing of local 5’9” Barnesville Trojan athlete Allison Peterson

Allison is a 2017 Heart of Lakes All Conference Honorable Mention Player, she helped lead her team to a Section 6A Runner-up finish. She was a great blocker for the Trojans being voted Biggest Blocker in 2017 and Most Improved and Rookie of the Year in 2016, she is also an integral part of the Trojan Softball Team. Allison is a great player on the court but also a great student off, as she is a 3 year Knowledge Bowl Member, Yearbook Editor, and in the Book club and Spanish Club. Allison was Coach by Megan Askegaard

Morris Named as Finalist for National Coach of the Year

It is with great pleasure that the National High School Athletic Coaches Association announces the advancement of Jeff Morris from Perham High School as a finalist for the National High School Athletic Coaches Association national coach of the year in the sport of Cross Country.

Eight finalists from across the nation will be honored during The National Coach of the Year Awards Banquet which will take place at the National High School Athletic Coaches Association’s national convention at the Ramkota Hotel in Sioux Falls, SD on the evening of June 27, 2018. The highlight of the banquet will be the naming of the NHSACA national coach of the year in nineteen recognized sports categories.

Coach Morris was nominated for this national honor by their state’s high school coaches’ association. This selection was based on longevity, service to high school athletics, honors, championship years, and winning percentage. The nominees and finalists are evaluated by experts in the field of coaching using a sport-specific rubrics to assign points in each category. The National High School Athletic Coaches Association is the oldest coaches association in the nation formed by coaches, for coaches, and has been recognizing national coaches of the year since 1978.

The Perham boys and girls swept the State Championships in November, the first double state title in school history and fourth time it has been accomplished in state history.  In addition, both were named by the National High School Coaches Assosiation as Division II National Champions for both girls and boys, a first in national history.

Mark to Play Volleyball at M State

Corina Mark, senior libero from Underwood High School, has signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball for the Minnesota State Community and Technical College Spartans.

Corina has 4 years of varsity volleyball experience and as a senior was named team captain and to the All-Conference 1st team.

“I’m very excited that Corina has decided to play volleyball for us next year,” said Spartan volleyball coach Abby Crowser. “Her past experience and leadership role of being her team’s libero will be both positive and impactful as she transitions to the college level.”

Corina is the daughter of Mike and Tammy Mark of Dalton, MN.

Hovland Commits to Spartans

Sydney Hovland, senior from Underwood High School, has signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball and basketball for the Minnesota State Community and Technical College Spartans.

Sydney is a right side hitter/setter and has 4 years of varsity volleyball experience. As a junior Sydney was named to the All-Conference 2nd team and as a senior was named team captain and All-Conference 1st team.

“Sydney’s extensive varsity volleyball experience and her years of being a part of a successful, dominant program will be a tremendous advantage for us,” said Spartan volleyball coach Abby Crowser. “Her ability as a strong hitter and a solid setter is a wonderful combination. She’ll be a valuable addition to our 2018 volleyball team.”

On the basketball court, Sydney has been a 4 year starter and was named All-Conference her freshman, sophomore and junior year. She was selected as Offensive MVP her sophomore and junior year and joined the 1000 point club her junior year. She was selected as a team captain this year and the Rockets are currently 9-4.

“Sydney is a solid addition to our 2018-2019 basketball team. She is a versatile player who can score from the 3 point land, off the dribble or from the post position. She is a very coachable athlete with a lot of knowledge. I look forward to her success at M State,” said Janice Hendrickson, women’s basketball coach.

Sydney is the daughter of Spartan Alumni’s Brian and Kris Hovland.

Tungseth Garners MCAC Southern Division Player of the Week Honors

M State sophomore forward Chris Tungseth is the MCAC Southern Division Player of the Week.

Tungseth scored 46 pooints on 16-for-23 shooting, including a school record performance of 10-for-17 from behind the 3-point line as the Spartans beat Mesabi Range Community College on Friday night in Fergus Falls.  He also went 4-for-4 on free throws.  Tungseth followed that outing with a double-double against Itasca CC (14 points, 11 rebounds) in a Spartan victory on Saturday afternoon.
