Stroh Finishes Indoor Season Strong for NDSU

NDSU sophomore Steffan Stroh, a 2013 Underwood High School graduate, took third place in the weight event (58’ 5.75”) and was fifth in the shot put (56’ 3”) at the Summit League Indoor Championship meet on February 26 and 27. He earned Summit League All-Conference honors with his third place finish in the Weight throw.

Stroh is now ranked fifth all-time for the Bison in the indoor shot and tenth all time in the indoor weight event. He also ranks eighth in NDSU history in the discus with his PR of 166-6 at the outdoor conference meet last spring.

Stroh was a four-year letter winner in track and field for Underwood High School, winning the 2012 Minnesota state championship in the discus, while finishing as runner-up in the shot put. He holds school records in the discus (160-0) and shot put (54-4).

FF Boys Basketball State Tournament Information

The Activities Office at Fergus Falls High School has announced plans for bus signup and ticket sales as the Otter boys basketball team prepares for their first round game in the Class 3A State Tournament on Wednesday.  The Otters earned the number three seed and will face Waseca at 4:00pm Wednesday at Williams Arena.

Game tickets will be available at the Kennedy Secondary School in the front foyer area starting at 8:00am Monday.  Tickets are $14.00 for adults and $9.00 for students.

Fans are encouraged to ride the fan bus Wednesday as parking is expected to be a real issue at the U of M.  Buses will leave from Lot 3 near the Kennedy Soccer Field approximately four hours before game time.  The cost to ride the motorcoaches is $25 per person with a 12:00 noon deadline on Tuesday.

Notes

There will be a State Tournament send-off for the Fergus Falls boys swimming and diving team at three o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Kennedy Secondary School Gold Gymnasium.  The Otters have three relay teams and four individuals qualified for the state meet at the U of M Aquatic Center on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Last year, the Minnesota Legislature switched the date of the Precinct Caucus in our state.  It had been on the first Tuesday in February, but they changed it to the first Tuesday in March.  Therefore, the first round of the Section 8AAA Girls Basketball Tournament will be held on Wednesday, March 2 instead of Tuesday, March 1.  District 544 doesn't like the fact that there is a game scheduled on a Wednesday in Lent, but that is what has happened.  It will be a 7:00pm game with the Otters playing at Detroit Lakes.

Due to the Otter Boys' Basketball team playing in the section finals on Thursday, March 3, Parent-Teacher Conference have been adjusted for students in grades 9-12.  Instead of starting at 5:00pm, the high school conferences will begin at 2:00pm.  A number of staff members will be attending the section boys basketball game and leaving at 5:30pm.  Parets of students in grades Kindergarten through eighth grade will be contacted if their scheduled conference has changed.

2012 Fergus Falls High School graduate, Sydney Schultz, suffered a major knee injury in her final college game for the Bethel Royals, tearing her ACL, MCL and meniscus in a scramble for a loose ball.  The injury happened in the Royals 85-76 loss to Concordia College on February 23.  Schultz made 38-of-101 3-point field goal attempts her senior season for 37.6% efficiency.  She averaged 6.2 points per game and played an average of just over 27 minutes per game for the Royals.

Another 2012 grad, Mariah Monke, is averaging just under 12 minutes a game for the 25-3 Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix.  She is averaging 2.7 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.

2014 Otter graduate, Anna Monke, a sophomore at Minnesota-Duluth, has started all 23 games for the Bulldogs this year and is averaging 6.8 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per game.
