Fund raisers are on the schedules of a couple of area schools with special events centered around athletic events. The dates are Saturday, September 21 at Underwood and Thursday, September 26 at Evansville.
On Saturday, Underwood Physical Education instructor and Coach Ryan Hendrickson will be hosting the 'UHS Homecoming Family Fun Run'. This 2 mile run/walk encourages families to register together with the motto of 'Health Starts at Home'. The cost is $15 per runner with student registration free if they are registered with an adult. The event will start and end at the Underwood High School football field with grilling to follow. Runners receive a free meal consisting of a brat, chips and water. Additional brats will be available for $2 each. Non-runners can partake of a meal for a free will donation.
All proceeds from this event will go directly into the Underwood Physical Education Department and Weight Room fund. Registration forms can be obtained at the Underwood School Office.
On Thursday, September 26 at the Evansville School Gymnasium, the Brandon-Evansville lady Chargers will be hosting a match against the Ashby Arrows. This night has been designated as a fundraising activity to help seventh-grader Jordan Nohre and her family. Jordan was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia last spring and the Brandon-Evansville volleyball team wants to help.
"Currently we are wearing orange shoe laces to recognize both Jordan's fight and because it is Leukemia Awareness Month," stated B-E Head Volleyball Coach Kelly Olson. "I know the greatest thing about a small community is the fact that when one of us is hurting, the members of that community respond. There have been many efforts to help the Nohre family, all very successful. We are hoping we can also help by getting the word out and getting as many people in the gym, partaking in the activities, making small donations of either money or time, or just being there to recognized the hardships Jordan and her family are going through right now."
Fans are asked to where as much orange as they can to the gym. Orange shoe laces will be on sale for $5 and orange ribbons will be given out when a donation is given to Jordan. There will be a 50/50 bucket and serving contests between sets.
The C-team begins the action at 5:00pm, followed by the JV match at 6:00pm and the varsity match at 7:30pm. All proceeds from the night will go directly to the Nohre family.
