If I've been asked the question once I've been asked it a thousand times ... what sport is Brianna Rasmusson going to play in college? It's never been a question of will Brianna play college athletics, just which sport and where. Now, those questions have been answered. Rasmusson has given verbal commitment to the Bison of North Dakota State University and will be playing Division I College Volleyball.
Her high school volleyball coach Renee Erickson is thrilled with her decision, "Bri is the first athlete I've coached to play at the Division I level. The thing about Bri is she is so much more than a great athlete ... she is just a great person. A great teammate, a great role model, a great friend and she has such a big heart. I am so excited for her. This also means a lot to our program. We've had many great student-athletes come through our school and many played volleyball, but when you have a player go on to play at this high a level it does so many positive things for not only your program but for your entire school and community."
Rasmusson has been a key member of the Otter volleyball team and girls basketball team since eighth grade and has been a state competitor in track and field.
“I have always thought about playing college volleyball for NDSU,” said Rasmusson. “I think I would have enjoyed playing college basketball, too, but I grew up around volleyball with my mom being a coach at the college and I love playing the game.”
Bri said she will primarily be a setter for the Bison, but could wind up doing some hitting depending on the type of attack they run.
“I really wanted to make a decision before school started and I really liked the staff and players at NDSU,” said Rasmusson. “I also like the class sizes they have. It’s not too big and not too small. Plus, it’s close enough that fans who have followed the Otters over the last few years will hopefully be able to watch me play college volleyball.”
Rasmusson is planning on studying physical therapy and hoping to get into graduate school after her four years are up, but for now she has other things occupying her thoughts.
“Some of my classmates and I have been talking about how great it would be to go to state in volleyball and basketball our senior year, and I would love to get back there in track and field, so we have some high goals we are hoping to achieve in our final year as Otters,” concluded Rasmusson.
