Pancake Feed to Honor Memory of Alt Girls While Benefiting Orphanage
A Pancake Feed Saturday, September 29 from 8:00am to 10:00am at Applebee's in Fergus Falls will honor the memory of Ayana Grace and Ayla Grace Alt while benefiting Children of the Promise Orphanage.  Everyone is encouraged to come and be a part of this opportunity to help.

The Pancake Feed is being sponsored by Reese's Friends.  Reese Thacker was adopted by Sarah and David Thacker in 2010 after the earthquake in Haiti.  His orphanage, Children of the Promise, provides care to malnourished babies and toddlers.  Children of the Promise is in the middle of a building project to build seven family-like homes for children until the are with their forever families.  Each baby home costs $35,000 to build.  The goal for the Pancake Feed is to raise enough money to build one home.  It will be called the Grace House, in memory of Ayana Grace and Ayala Grace.  The girls were born to Mike and Annie Alt on March 31.  They shared only one heart and lived for a miraculous and precious 33 minutes.

Mike Alt and David Thacker have been on the Fergus Falls High School Boys Hockey coaching staff together for several years.

For more information on the project go to www.childrenofthepromise.org.

Rothsay's Zimmerman Earns Weekly Honors at Mayville State
Rothsay High School graduate Matt Zimmerman, a redshirt freshman at Mayville State University, has been named the Defensive Scout Player of the Week for the Comets for a second straight week.

Zimmerman (5'7, 185 pounds) is a linebacker.

"The Rothsay Tiger athletic program is very proud of Matt's recent accomplishments at Mayville State University," said Rothsay Head Coach Andrew Oland.  "We have had trouble filling in for Matt's talents on the football field since losing him to graduation, but his leadership and commitment to Tiger athletics is still present in many of the players that he has inspired.  The successes that we have experienced thus far this year can be attributed to players like Matt, and we are pleased to see that he is continuing to have success in athletics and academics after high school."

Robbie Strand, a redshirt freshman quarterback from Barnesville, was named the Offensive Scout Team Player of the Week for the Comets this week.

Hillcrest 8th Grader Win Elks State Soccer Shootout

On Saturday, August 25th, the Minnesota Elks Association hosted its annual State Soccer Shoot competition at the Elks Youth Camp near Nisswa, Minnesota. Tommy Thompson from Fergus Falls, an eighth-grader at Hillcrest Lutheran Academy, took first place in the 12 and 13 year old age group.

Second place went to Austin Martell of Thief River Falls and Tim Demarest of Faribault finished in third place.

Thirty-one kids ages 13 and under from across the state earned their way to this fun-filled, family-focused weekend event by winning their local and district shoots earlier this summer. In addition to the actual Soccer Shoot event, the participants and their families enjoyed a weekend of swimming, biking, kayaking, mini golf, basketball, fishing, hay rides and camp fires.
