Alyssa Blair of the lady Spartans basketball team has earned MCAC Southern Division Player of the Week honors and M State volleyball coach Terri Strom has announced the signing of Eagle Valley outside hitter Danielle Pratt to a National Letter of Intent.

Blair averaged 22 points and 9.5 rebounds per game as the lady Spartans split a pair of games the week of November 12-18, losing to NDSCS 87-61 and beating Central Lakes 70-35.  Blair made 21-of-34 shots (64%) from the field.  She is a sophomore from Elbow Lake.  Blair is averaging 19.3 points per game, good for second in the Southern Division, and has hit 53% (26-49) of her field goal attempts.  Her 8.7 rebounds per game ranks fifth in the division.

Pratt is a three sport athlete at Eagle Valley, playing basketball and softball in addition to volleyball.  She is the daughter of Jim and Becky Pratt of Clarissa.  "I'm very excited to have a player like Danielle join our Spartan family," said Coach Strom.  "Danielle brings a lot of athleticism and quickness to our outside attack."

Stroh Wins Minnesota Wendy's High School Heisman
Senior Steffan Stroh of Underwood has been named the Minnesota boys winner of the Wendy's High School Heisman Award.  Riley Hanson of Nevis was the female recipient of the award.  Here is the press release with details on the award and the selection process.

Two of Minnesota’s most outstanding high school seniors were honored with distinguished recognition as State Winners of the 2012 Wendy’s High School Heisman Award.  Riley Hanson of Nevis High School in Nevis and Steffan Stroh of Underwood High School in Underwood will now go on to compete for the national award that celebrates their hard work, dedication and exceptional records in athletics, academics and community leadership.

“Colleges want well-rounded students and with admissions growing more selective, a national award like the Wendy’s High School Heisman can really help students stand out,” said Archie Griffin, two-time collegiate Heisman Trophy winner. “Riley and Steffan are inspirations to others in their school and community, and we’re honored to welcome them into the Heisman family.”

Awarded in conjunction with the collegiate Heisman, the Wendy’s High School Heisman, now in its 19th year, has set the standard for high school student-athletes and gained tremendous prestige among universities and colleges nationwide.

Hanson and Stroh were chosen from 45,000 applicants, surviving rounds that narrowed contenders to one male and one female winner from each school, and then to Minnesota’s respected group of 20 State Finalists.
