Clay Moser Joins Los Angeles Lakers Coaching Staff
Clay Moser, a 1981 Fergus Falls High School graduate and a 1983 graduate of Fergus Falls Community College (M State), has been hired by the Los Angeles Lakers to serve as an Advanced Scout on Head Coach Mike Brown's staff.

Moser has most recently been the Associate Head Coach for the Los Angeles D-Fenders in the NBA Development League, serving alongside D-Fenders Head Coach Eric Musselman.  Moser brings more than a decade of NBA and NBA Development League experience with him to the Lakers and has also spent extensive time evaluating NBA-caliber talent as an advance scout for several teams.

You can access the full press release on Moser's hire at http://www.nba.com/lakers/news/111215claymoser_advancedscout.html.
You will also most likely be able to spot Moser seated directly behind the Lakers player bench during their season opening game on Sunday, Christmas Day at 4:00pm against the Chicago Bulls.  The game will be on ABC TV.

Moser interned as an assistant coach under Dave Retzlaff at Fergus Falls Community College (M State) following his college days at LaCrosse, Wisconsin and also spent time on the bench at North Carolina State University with Jim Valvano.

Spartan Players Earn MCAC Player of the Week Honors
Two Spartan basketball players are being recognized as MCAC Southern Division Players of the Week.

Freshman Rhoda Christenson of the lady Spartans is the Player of the Week for the second time this season.  The Hillcrest Lutheran Academy graduate averaged 23 points per game, 6 rebounds per game, 3 assists per game and one steal per game as she helped the Spartans secure a pair of road wins, improving to 8-3.  Christenson shot 66% (21/32) from the field.

Shane Bosek, a 6'5" freshman forward for the Spartan Men, received the Player of the Week honor for his performance in two Spartan wins at the Central Lakes Classic.  He averaged 21.5 points per game while shooting 63% from the arc and 91% from the free throw line.  Bosek played his high school ball at Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood.

Mark Your Calendar
A couple of things you need to mark down on your calendar.  If you're like me, you need to do that as a reminder of important events that are coming up.

The Fergus Falls girls basketball teams (9th grade through varsity) are doing a food drive as a community service project.  There will be a table and tubs setup to collect non-perishable food items for the Food Shelf and monetary gifts for the Salvation Army at the Otter home games on December 9 and December 15.  If a donation is given on these dates, a coupon for free popcorn at the concession stand will be received by the donor (limit of one per person).  'Tis the Season to Give and the Otter girls basketball teams are giving you that opportunity.

The Fergus Falls Youth Hockey Rookie program was a great success last year and the opportunity to be involved this year is coming soon.  The program goal is to introduce children to ice skating and hockey.  They will be instructed on how to skate and play games on the ice with sticks and pucks.  Boys and girls ages 3-9 are encouraged to participate and no previous experience is necessary.  The Rookie Program will be held on Wednesday, starting January 11 and going through March 14, 2012 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm at the Fergus Falls Community Arena.  The cost is $25.00 per player.  Required equipment includes an HECC certified hockey helmet with full face mask, hockey stick, and hockey or winter gloves.  Breezer or sweat pants, shin pads and elbow pads are also recommended.  A limited amount of equipment is available to rent for a $25.00 deposit.  You must pre-register by sending registration form to FFHA Rookie Program, P.O. Box 691, Fergus Falls, MN, 56538.  All children who are pre-registered will be sized for equipment on Monday, January 9 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in the Community Room at the new arena.  Forms are available online at www.fergusfallshockey.org.  If you have any questions you can contact Cyndi at 218-736-0059 or e-mail [email protected].   The program is sponsored by Fergus Falls Eagles Aerie #2339.
