Twins Make First Off Season Move
The off season should prove to be a very busy one for the Minnesota Twins.  They made their first move on Monday as they fired GM Billy Smith and replaced him, on an interim basis, with former GM Terry Ryan.  It was Smith who replaced Ryan in the position in September of 2007.

Smith has not been popular with the fans and many have been calling for his firing.  He made several acquisitions that didn't pan out in his four-plus years in the GM role.

Ryan stated in the press conference announcing the move, "As we move ahead, I'm looking forward to the challenge of improving this club for 2012 and beyond.  We have many assets in place, including a strong front office, manager, coaching staff and returning core of players.  We have a lot of work to do in relation to development of our roster, but I'm optimistic in our collective abilities to ensure the future on-field success of this franchise."

Ryan, 58, was GM from 1994-2007, winning the Sporting News Executive of the Year award twice ('02 and '06).

The move comes just in time to negotiate with free agents as the Hot Stove League fires up for the winter.
