Fergus Falls High School and Fergus Falls Community College graduate Justin Arneson has joined the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. The RedHawks have sold the contract of outfielder Jon Weber to the Texas Rangers organization and signed Arneson to take his place. Arneson was in the lineup for the series finale with Schaumburg on Sunday, getting a base hit and scoring a run in his first plate appearance.
Arneson, who is 25 years old, spent the past five season in the Minnesota Twins organization. Last season he appeared in 70 games for the Class A Fort Myers Miracle of the Florida State League, batting .232 with six doubles, two triples, three home runs, 24 RBIs and 26 runs scored.
Arneson joins another FFHS and FFCC grad, Brandon Goltz, on the RedHawks roster. Goltz, the Rookie Pitcher of the Year in the Northern League in 2006, is off to a 2-0 start this year with a 3.27 earned run average. Goltz has struck out eight batters and walked one in eleven innings of work.
Arneson joins the team just in time to embark on a road trip to Canada. The RedHawks begin a three game series in Winnipeg on Tuesday and will also play three games in Edmonton and three games in Calgary over the next ten days. Fargo-Moorhead is 10-7 and leading the Northern Division of the Northern League.
Another Fergus Falls High School graduate, Kirby Carr
, graduated from Bethel College on May 26th with a degree in Biology. Carr rewrote the Bethel baseball record book this year setting career marks in almost every offensive category including batting average (.414), home runs (37), hits (196), and runs batted in (154). Carr became the first athlete in MIAC history to earn first-team all-conference honors for all four years of competition in two different sports (football and baseball) other than track and cross country. Carr has been contacted by a few major league teams and could be chosen in the upcoming draft. If not, he is ready to attend Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington this fall, enrolling in their chiropractic program.
